James Crawford Lanier was born and grew up in Clarke County. He served the Confederacy in Co., D., First Regiment, Georgia Cavalry. James married twice, both times to women from Bartow Co., GA, Fannie Taff & Mary Elizabeth Sproull. He moved his family to Alabama in the 1880s to Talladega County. He was a very successful businessman.
